 a. Junior Secondary

Language Policy

We have adopted English as the medium of instruction (MOI) in three classes for each junior secondary level, while the other one class mainly uses Chinese as the MOI. Extended courses taught in English are also included in various subjects.

  • Subjects taught in English use textbooks and assessments in English version
  • A scaffolding model in adopting English as the MOI
  • 1st Term: In order to assist students to develop a learning habit with materials in English, a bilingual classroom is encouraged. While English is used in all written texts, Cantonese could be used in a supporting role.
  • 2nd Term: Students should be able to learn and interact in English during lesson time.
  • Subjects taught in Chinese as the MOI (except Chinese Language and Chinese History) are encouraged to be in English. Assessments are in English for English for English taught contents.
  • Textbooks
    • Textbooks from the same publisher are used in all classes
  • Assessments and Examinations
    • Consistent contents in examinations for classes which adopt English and Chinese as the MOI
    • Chinese translations for important vocabulary are provided in examination papers for classes which adopt English as the MOI
  • Class Placements:
    • For S.1, placements are based on students’ results in English in the Pre-S1 Attainment Test provided by the Education Bureau
    • For S.2, placements are based on students’ results in English throughout the academic year in S.1 (For both flexible and non-flexible classes)
    • For S.3, placements to classes of different MOI will not be reallocated

 

b. MOI in Senior Secondary

According to the will of parents and the abilities of students, students are allowed to choose Chinese/English as the language of instruction

  • 英語教學的科目採用英文課本及用英語作評核
  • 以循序漸進方式推行英語教學:
    • 上學期:  讓學生習慣使用英文材料學習,課堂講授以粵語配合英語詞彙講授,黑板/簡報上的資料一律以英文為主。鼓勵學生盡量使用英文報告,但接受中英並用。
    • 下學期:  讓學生習慣使用英文材料及語言學習,課堂講授以英語為主,以粵語解釋詞彙/概念,黑板/簡報上的資料一律以英文為主 。學生須使用英文報告。
  • 以母語教授的科目,除中文及中史外,鼓勵各科多用英文教材,並以英語教授延展學習課程。用英語教授之內容將用英語作評核
  • 教科書
    • 英文班及中文班採用同一出版社的教科書
  • 評核與考測
    • 考測內容英文班及中文班一致
    • 英文班考測卷中重要詞彙可配以中文對譯
  • 分班
    • 升中一時,按教育局升中一學科測驗(Pre-S1Attainment Test)英文科成績分班
    • 升中二時,按中一英文科全年成績再作分班(英文班及中文班)
    • 升中三時,英文班及中文班不再重新編排

 

b.     高中教學語言 

主要按學生和家長的意願及學生能力,讓學生選擇以中/英語作為教學語言
